if you do, we should love to have them for our archives please. alternatively, if you feel you want to keep them in your family, perhaps you would be kind enough to lend them to us for a short while, so that we can take copies for our archives. if so, please speak to me, david gurney or a committee member or contact us via our website with brief details of what you have and whether you propose to donate or lend them to us. we will take great care of anything you give or lend us. haydn puleston jones, chairman plaxtol local history group aims to help us all to understand and enjoy aspects of our village and parish history and that of the surrounding areas - from the houses and architecture to the people, their livelihoods and the landscape.we do this through our talks, visits , special projects , publications and occasional exhibitions . each year we have a programme of monthly talks in plaxtol memorial hall - when members and non-members are welcome (see our 2018 programme ) - plus visits to places of interest. talks naturally focus on the history of this area and examples of subjects recently covered include: the story of knole & the sackvilles, old firms of maidstone, ightham past & present, the renaissance garden in kent, plaxtol houses, oldbury hill & ancient trackways, the development of the parish church in kent regular talks are only one aspect of our commitment to local history. the group is actively involved in projects : such as transcribing onto databases and two cds of the original plaxtol census reports from 1841 to 1911 and of plaxtol parish registers of baptisms, marriages and burials from 1648 to 1931. occasionally, we stage exhibitions, such as our very successful plaxtol at war exhibition on 3 and 4 may 2014, attended by 744 visitors, some from as far afield as cornwall and yorkshire. we also aim to spread the knowledge of plaxtol's fascinating past by researching its history and publishing the results in books and booklets, such as our series of five publications on various aspects of plaxtol's history in victorian times. for details of our publications and how to buy them, see books etc . for our publications and exhibitions, we are able to use the significant resources of our archive of documents, photos and artefacts. we encourage an interest in history among students at plaxtol primary school by awarding the annual rosemary foster history prize for the best history student chosen by the school. we are a friendly lot. do join us - you could find our activities as stimulating as we do. haydn puleston jones , chairman plaxtol local history group is a registered charity (registered number 294317). #top © plaxtol local history group | created at www.mrsite.com
